On Sunday, March 31, 2019, twenty-five children from Walter C. Black Elementary School in the East Windsor school district shopped with volunteer chaperones from The Peddie School from Hightstown, NJ. This was the first Make A Smile Foundation event held at the East Windsor Target store, where the children shopped for clothes, shoes and accessories, accompanied by the high school volunteers.
Each student was given an envelope with $60 and, with help from their designated chaperone, picked out items and paid for their purchases. Before the shopping spree began, the children had breakfast and colored while they got acquainted with the volunteers. After they paid for the merchandise, they had a snack and waited for their parents to arrive. The children were extremely excited about their purchases and their smiles were contagious.
Special thanks to Make A Smile Board Members Melanie Patrick and Glenn Garlatti for attending, the fabulous Samantha and her team at Target, as well as Heather Gladkowski, school principal, for the wonderful job she did coordinating the students. The volunteer chaperones from The Peddie School and Director Jim Truslow did an amazing job and they cannot wait for the next event – thanks to all of you!
